Ernest Goddard - Newton Daily News

Goddard, 93, of Newton, formerly of Des Moines, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018, at his home in Park Centre. The family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory followed by a graveside service at Newton Union Cemetery.Ernest, the son of Ernest Clair and Bessie (Adkins) Goddard, was born Sept. 5, 1925, in Kellogg. He attended Newton schools and served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Ernest was united in marriage with Doris Jean Davis Feb. 2, 1947, at her parent’s home in Newton. They moved to Des Moines in 1962, where Ernest would work as a dry cleaner at Hilliard’s Dry Cleaning. He was a member of the Highland Park American Legion. In 2017, Ernest and Jean moved back to Newton.Ernest is survived by his wife, Jean Goddard of Newton; sons, Robert (Carol) Goddard of Visalia, Calif., and Merlin Goddard of Marshalltown; grandchildren, Nathan (Kristine) Goddard of New Mexico and Alisha Goddard (Daniel Stouffer) of Oregon; his three great-granddaughters; sisters-in-law, Elaine Barrett of California and Ruth Rennpage of Newton; and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Debbie Goddard; sisters, Reva and Peggy; and brother, Arnoth.​ Afternoon Update NewsletterReader PollWhat will be your New Year's Resolution?...

Brooks went home to be with her Savior Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.A time of remembrance and graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30 at the Newton Union Cemetery. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton, has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Jennifer’s parents or Progress Industries.Jennifer Lynn Brooks, 48, the daughter of Michael D. and Joan M. (Gray) Brooks, was born Dec. 16, 1969, in Newton. She had been employed by Progress Industries. Jennifer lived at Progress for several years, where she received loving and tender care from its staff.Jennifer is survived by her parents, Mike and Joan Brooks of Newton; her brother and sister-in-law, Jay and Jane Brooks of Huxley; a nephew, Marshall Brooks in Huxley; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and many extended family. Sutton passed away Sunday afternoon, Dec. 2, 2018, at the Iowa Veteran’s Medical Center in Des Moines.A time of remembrance and celebration of life will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6 at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton, who has been entrusted with the arrangements. Burial will be in the Veteran’s Section, Newton Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be designated to Raymond’s Family.Raymond Eugene Sutton, 83, the son of Edward L. and Cleo D. (Logue) Sutton, was born Sept. 13, 1935, near Newton. He had served his country during the Korean Conflict, with the U.S. Army.Ray was employed by the Jasper County Road Maintenance Department as a grader operator. He was a member of the Newton V.F.W. Post #1655 and American Legion Post at 42nd and Easton in Des Moines. He enjoyed the Newton Moose Lodge, tinkering around the house, loved all animals and singing (Karaoke).Ray is survived by his daughter, Jacqueline Suzanne Livengood; a son, James Allen Sutton, Sr.; his 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; his sister, Linda Brinstead; and many good neighbors and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Raymond E.
